Roofing FAQ

HOW ACCURATE ARE THE ROOFING ESTIMATES?

The roofing calculator provides high-precision material estimates based on standard geometric formulas. However, complex architectural details and site-specific variations mean all results should be verified by a local roofing professional before purchasing materials.

WHICH ROOF TYPES AND PITCHES ARE SUPPORTED?

Currently, the tool supports Gable, Hip, and Shed roof configurations. You can input custom pitch rise and run values to calculate almost any standard residential slope, automatically adjusting the estimated roof surface area based on the angle.

HOW SHOULD I CHOOSE A WASTE FACTOR?

We recommend a 5% waste factor for simple roofs, 10% for roofs with hips and valleys, and 15% for complex roofing structures with many cuts. Choosing the correct factor ensures you have enough bundles to finish the job without excessive leftovers.

IS THIS CALCULATOR FOR FINAL DESIGN OR JUST ESTIMATING SHINGLES?

This is a material estimating tool designed for preliminary planning and budget drafting. While it provides accurate counts for shingles and squares, all final roofing lists and installations should be reviewed by a licensed professional to meet local codes.
